At approximately eight weeks old, puppies get a physical exam and their first puppy shots.

The areas of examination include general appearance, eyes, ears, teeth and occlusion, cardiovascular, respiratory, abdomen, musculoskeletal, skin, lymph nodes, urogenital, nervous system, patella exam.  They passed with flying colors.

The boys are very tired from their outing today.

The girls were quite brave when they got their shot. I didn’t hear a peep. They had a nice nap on the way home and didn’t really want to be awake for a picture.

The pups meet new “challenges” with gusto.  They love to roam around the kitchen and laundry room.  They are happy to sleep in their exercise area and still spend a lot of time playing in there, but then they let me know they want OUT.  They were gifted a new bed today.  They tipped it over, chewed on it, climbed on it and eventually even slept in it.  It’s a hit.

This bed is comfortable!

Pink Girl can run like the wind. She likes to play and she still has a particular affinity for 7 month old Wilson.

Sweet is a good word to describe Purple Girl. She has a sweet face and a sweet personality.

Orange Girl is always ready to take on something new.  She is also very playful.

Blue Boy is interactive. He wants to spend time with his human family. He particularly likes my son.

Green Boy will often asked to be picked up. He is usually happy to cuddle.

“Are you looking for a good time? I’m your man!”
Sometimes Brown Boy thinks the best times involve jumping on his sibs and wrestling them to the ground.

Yesterday was bath and nail day.  Today is the day to trim some of that wild puppy hair.

This is Blue Boy’s chance to model his new “do”. His hair is about an inch shorter after his trim.

It’s been a busy day for the puppies.  Today was bath and nail day.

Today the “BIG” dryer was used.  That takes some getting used to.

Green Boy gets his picture taken because he was the most brave in the bath and getting dried with the more powerful (and noisy) dryer. Good job, Chewy!

I noticed in my previous post I had mistakenly used a picture of Green Boy for Brown Boy. This is Brown Boy at 6 weeks.

SIX WEEKS OLD!

Time flies when you are having fun and when you are busy.  Six puppies, six weeks old = busy!

New challenges this week:  getting used to wearing a collar and taking a car ride.

Pink Girl likes people and she likes the other dogs.

Pretty Purple Girl is coming along nicely.

Orange Girl has a sweet personality.

Blue Boy has the biggest eyes!

We worked hard getting Green Boy to gain weight. Now he is in the middle of the pack. He enjoys his food.

Brown Boy has the most hair.  That earned him the dubious privilege of being the first to get a bath.

That wasn’t so bad!

What? You have to use the dryer now??

Between weeks 4 and today (week 5) the puppies are cutting teeth.  They are much more mobile now and spend a fair amount of time playing with each other and with their toys.  Other things that are new are new locations for daytime play and nighttime sleep.  They have a larger play area and it is more central to household activity.  The older dogs can interact with them through the x-pen.  A tunnel has been introduced and they don’t  hesitate to go through.  They also have a new wobble disk. Add a little hair trimming and you can see they have had an eventful week!

Pink Girl likes 7 month old Wilson. When he’s around, she hurries over to play with him (through the x-pen).

Purple Girl maintains her position in the middle of the pack, weight-wise.

Orange Girl was the first to climb out of the whelping box. She was the first to go through the tunnel.

How handsome is this little lad? Blue Boy is small but mighty.

Green Boy likes his chow so much that he will get right in the center of the dish to eat.

Brown Boy is the largest puppy, over 2 pounds now. He is a very friendly “dude”l
