April and Adam visited our favorite vet today for a physical exam and their first set of puppy shots. April was very happy and excited to meet new people and but she didn’t like the shot. Adam was also excited, and he was very curious about everything. The shot didn’t phase him a bit.

Sorry I cut off the doctor’s head, but at least April looks cute!
Aprils good report
Did I mention Adam was curious? 🙂 I think he was going for the stethoscope.

April and Adam had an excursion today. They went to visit their younger cousins at Karen’s house. A fun time was had by all the puppies and one of the perks of a long playtime is the long nap they take afterward.

It’s hard to believe that the babies are 7 weeks old. Adam’s weight is generally about 1/2 pound more than April. On Sunday he weighed 3 lb. 8 oz. April weighed 2 lb. 14 oz.

April had her first visit outside. She enjoyed exploring. She also loves to be picked up and snuggled.
Adam loves to play. Yesterday when his Mom did not want to play with him, he snuck behind her and pulled her tail. He got in trouble, but it was worth it!

Blue boy is growing rapidly trying to catch up with his littermates–he weighs almost 2 pounds. Although still the smallest he doesn’t let that stop him–he’s in the middle of every wrestling match.
Green boy is still the largest of the 3 male pups, but only by a couple of ounces. The pups have been more active this week with each other, their toys and their humans. So fun to watch them grow and change week by week.
Orange boy continues to be the pup that is the first to try new things or explore new territory. On Saturday the pups moved out of the bedroom and into a larger area where there is more activity (with people and the other big dogs) and room to run and play–they have adapted well. In addition the pups have started on puppy food–sloppy though it is, it is still a hit and they seem to really like the food, I think the goats milk makes the food more appealing to them. Skye, who is still very much a pup herself, is totally fascinated by the 3 little boys–I’m sure she is looking forward to playing with them when they are bigger.

Today the puppies had their first bath, their first experience with the hair dryer and their first haircut. They get an A +

April, after her bath. She was pretty brave.

Look at that pile of hair! April was a bit nervous with the dryer but I talked and sang to her and she felt more comfortable. She stood fairly still for the clippers and scissors.
First bath? Not a problem for Adam but he’s not very fond of standing for a picture!
The dryer was a bit of a challenge. Adam was like a moving target for trimming. Who wants to stand still when you can be playing? As a reward, he got to play with the big boys for a while. I watch closely to make sure they are not too rough. He seemed to enjoy every minute.

Sunny is still spending lots of time with her babies. She feeds them, cleans them, plays with them and occasionally gives them a little growl to teach them some manners. This is exactly what a Momma dog should do!

Don’t know how I got all the pups to sit and pose for their pictures today–just a minor miracle!! This is Blue boy and he had a busy 4th week growing and venturing out to explore new areas. Eyes and ears are open, their tails are up over their backs now. Blue is still the smallest of the 3 male pups, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in attitude.
Green boy is the largest of the pups and has the most hair. From the picture I see it is time to trim the hair around his eyes. All 3 pups are now playing with their toys and each other–after all there is nothing like a good wrestling match with your brothers.

Orange boy is the first of the 3 pups to try something new–he is always ready for a new adventure and loves being out of their sleeping area where he can explore and get into mischief. Sassy, mom to the pups, has begun playing with them–all part of the training their mother will give them.

It always happens. One of the puppies learns to climb out of the pen. This time is was Adam. When I made his area too tall to climb out, his mother couldn’t jump in. It’s time to remodel and redecorate. Now their sleeping space is secure, but smaller. Puppies need more space to run around and learn new things, so they have a big daytime pen set up in the bedroom.

Sweet April is 5 weeks old today.
