We just attended our local Bichon Specialty and had a wonderful, if exhausting time! We had a bit of a puppy reunion as Harper came to the show from Oregon. She was reunited with her sister Morgan and her brothers Chandler and Brinkley. Thanks, Jennifer (Brinkley’s person) for remembering to take pictures!
Second in line is Harper, followed by Morgan. Both did very well at the shows, and Harper got both the major wins she will need for her championship.
Miss Morgan will be six months old soon. She looks so much like her brother, Chandler, that I have trouble telling them apart.
Cute Morgan felt pretty special after her “new do”.
The puppies had a socialization experience this week. They went to class to be around other breeds of dogs and to hang out in a new place. I took both so they could have a buddy to give them confidence. They thought it was great fun. They each also got to go around the ring on their show lead, and to stack on the table. They did better in class than they do in their practice sessions at home. This week we will to go to another class, but one pup will go and one will stay home. Haircuts are also on the agenda.
Chandler is sprawled out, hoping his sister will share her chew with him.
No way am I giving up this “bone”!!
The final series of puppy shots was completed this week. The pups are wearing collars so they will get used to having something around their neck. Morgan is fine with it. Chandler (yes, Brown Boy has a new name) thinks his life is over when he wears his collar. Tomorrow they will go to their first handling class. For the most part they will sit on the sidelines and get used to new noises, smells and different breeds. I expect each will also get a turn on the leash.
It was a dog show weekend, so no pictures were taken of Baxter and Morgan until today. But Brinkley got to visit me at the show, and here is his picture. He was so excited to see me and I was thrilled to see him.
At 14 weeks of age, puppy owners cherish the peaceful moments when the pups are sleeping When they are awake it is non-stop running, exploring, chewing. It’s exhausting for them and for us!
We are still practicing walking on the leash. This week we have also practiced standing pretty on the grooming table. They need lots of work on this skill. They are very good when I call them to “come”. “Back, back,” lets them know not to try to sneak through the door that is closing. “No!” is a word that has been used a lot this week, with varying degrees of success.
